Two arrested in shooting involving Cairo City Manager – Thomasville Times-Enterprise

Published 11:40 am Tuesday, August 4, 2026 CAIRO — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested and charged Ja’Zavion Rayshad Deyounks, 19, of Pelham, and Todd Richard Gibbs, 28, of Cairo, in connection with the June 9, 2026, shooting involving Cairo City Manager Booker Gainor. The duo was arrested on July 30, 2026, and booked into the Grady County Jail, following an investigation by the GBI. The initial call was taken by the Grady County Sheriff’s Office. Reports indicate that Gainor had been driving a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) at approximately 10 p.m. on Aldredge Road off of Highway 188 in Grady County when he pulled over to take a phone call. While making the call, a dark-colored sedan approached him from behind. Gainor then reported that multiple shots were fired from the direction of the sedan. Gainor reportedly drove away on the UTV, escaping without any injuries to himself or damage to his UTV. The Grady County Sheriff’s Office promptly responded, before turning it over to the GBI due to the parties involved. Deyounks and Gibbs have both been charged with aggravated assault. The GBI said once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the South Georgia Judicial Circuit District Attorney for review and prosecution.
