Dodge County murder convict sues over his conviction , claiming his attorney had impermissible conflict of interest

Exzavious Gibson is now being represented by law professors and law students located at Mercer University’s School of Law. He was accused and convicted of killing Douglas Coley during a robbery back 1990. His previous attorney, Dennis Mullis, was appointed to represent him. He was convicted and sentenced to die when he was only 17 years old. In court filings, attorneys for Gibson say that Mullis was employed by the Georgia Attorney General’s Office while defending Gibson, and they say the attorney never told Gibson of his work with the AG’s Office. “Mullis’s dual employment compromised his representation; it inextricably linked him to the State,” the attorneys wrote.
