Harris County, Ga. (WTVM) – The Harris County Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 Tuesday night to deny a rezoning application that would have converted more than 586 acres on McKee Road from agricultural to residential use. The vote came just before 10 p.m. after commissioners heard from multiple District 5 residents and an attorney representing the applicant, Timberland 109 LLC. County Chair Susan Andrews, who represents District 5, made the motion to deny. Timberland 109 LLC had asked the county to rezone the McKee Road property — parcel ID 084-045 — for a conservation subdivision. The plan called for 191 homes built on approximately 280 of the 586 acres, with most lots sized at one acre. County staff had recommended approval contingent on the developer meeting six conditions, including adding turn lanes, conducting new traffic studies and submitting a detailed housing construction schedule for the school district to review. Opponents accused the developer of attempting to bypass the county’s long-standing two-acre minimum standard for rural land. Neighbors turned out in force against the plan, raising concerns about traffic, strained school capacity, septic systems and the impact
