Published 10:28 am Tuesday, July 28, 2026 The First Presbyterian Church of Valdosta was founded in 1864, and the current building was completed in 1907. Ludowici “Dixie” tiles, produced in Ludowici, Georgia, from 1902 to 1913, were used as the roofing material. The craftsmanship originated in Italy with the Ludovisi family and, in the late 1800s, was moved to Germany. During the late 1800s, the company expanded to the U.S., with its headquarters initially in Chicago and factories in several states. Ludowici “Dixie” Tiles are found in Georgia and Florida and today adorn structures such as Flagler College in St. Augustine and the U.S. Federal Building in Savannah.
