Deputies find 80lbs of Marijuana in Texas man’s vehicle We have more information on a marijuana bust in Franklin County this week. According to Franklin County Sheriff Scott Andrews, on July 26, deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, working in conjunction with the Georgia State Patrol, were conducting operations along Interstate 85 in connection with a Be On the Lookout(BOLO)alert for a murder suspect wanted out of Virginia. “During the operation, information was received indicating that the suspect vehicle had already entered neighboring Banks County,” Andrews said. “Shortly thereafter, a Franklin County deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling northbound on Interstate 85 for an equipment violation.” The vehicle was driven by Christopher Hamilton McGuirt of Spring, in Montgomery County, Texas. During the interaction, the deputy detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of more than 80+ pounds of suspected marijuana. McGuirt was arrested and taken to the Franklin County Detention Center. “The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office extends its appreciation to the Georgia State Patrol for their assistance and support during this operation,” Andrews said. Sheriff Andrews said the investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests are possible.
